Man Dies After Car Plunges Into Sea Near Gurnard

A man in his 40s from Ryde has tragically died after his car crashed into the sea near Gurnard late on Saturday night, 30 November.

Drama on Shore Road

Emergency services were scrambled to Shore Road, close to the local sailing club, just before 11:30 pm following reports of a vehicle entering the water. Police, firefighters, paramedics, and HM Coastguard rushed to the scene.

A green Ford Mondeo was found submerged in the water. Fire crews swiftly secured the vehicle and pulled the driver to safety. Despite their best efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Search for Passengers Comes Up Blank

Fears that others might have been in the car led HM Coastguard to carry out an extensive search of the area. Authorities have since confirmed no additional passengers were found in the vehicle or nearby.

Police Launch Serious Investigation

The police have opened a full investigation to determine if the car entered the water by accident or deliberately. Collision experts conducted a detailed forensic examination before dawn.

The man’s next of kin have been informed, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
