Crossbow Nightmare: Three Foxes Targeted in Greenwich

Shocking news from Greenwich as three foxes have been shot with a crossbow, sparking outrage and a police hunt for the culprit.

Foxes Found Wounded and Dead

The Met’s Wildlife Crime Unit was alerted on Thursday, 5 November after a member of the public spotted a fox with a bolt sticking out of its back in Parkgate, SE3. Volunteers from the Fox Project charity rushed to help, taking the injured fox to their Kent centre. Sadly, the poor creature didn’t survive.

This isn’t an isolated case. Another fox was found dead in the same area, and a third fox was reportedly seen carrying a bolt lodged in its body.

Police and Charities Demand Justice

“It’s absolutely shocking that two animals have died in such awful circumstances,” said Conchi Gago from the Met’s Wildlife Crime Unit. “It is obvious that whoever did this did so deliberately and it is disturbing to think that someone would intend to injure and kill a wild animal.”

Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it’s illegal to kill or injure wild animals using bows or crossbows.

The Fox Project is putting a hefty £2,000 reward on the table for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

Founder Trevor Williams added, “Every year we treat more than 1,000 foxes at our specialist rescue centre but this is a truly shocking case. It’s hard to understand that there is a small minority of people in society who are capable of such extreme cruelty to animals.”
