Burst Water Main Wreaks Havoc on Isle of Wight
Thousands of homes across the Isle of Wight have been left dry or struggling with low water pressure after a major burst water main near the River Medina in Blackwater.
10,000 Properties Hit Hard
Southern Water confirmed that up to 10,000 households in Shanklin, Wroxhall, Newchurch, Alverstone, and Rookley have been affected. The burst hit a vital trunk main feeding the Cooks Castle reservoir, cutting off the water supply for many and sparking frustration among residents.
Complex Repairs Underway
Engineers have been on the scene all day tackling what Southern Water calls a “complex repair”, expected to last into the evening. Tankers are injecting water straight into the system, restoring some supply to around half of the homes, but plenty are still dry.
