Hartlepool town centre has been thrown into chaos as a protest spiralled violently out of control. Riot police squads have flooded the streets to tackle the mayhem, with clashes erupting between officers and masked troublemakers.
Masked Thugs Attack Police with Wooden Bats
Eyewitnesses report men in balaclavas wielding large wooden bats, striking at police officers amid waves of protesters battering the police lines. Bricks and even a metal beam have been hurled, raising the stakes for both law enforcement and bystanders.
One bystander said, “There’s a full-on riot at the other end of the street. All the roads are blocked. They’re throwing bricks.” Tensions are running sky-high, with loud bangs and shouting echoing over police barricades.

Jill Mortimer, former MP for Hartlepool, spoke out from the scene: “I’m really concerned about the unrest on our streets. When community leaders fail to speak up, this is what happens. I urge my successor, Jonathan Brash MP, to step in and help calm things down.”
Hundreds of riot police equipped with shields have now arrived to try and regain control of the volatile situation.
