A solo smash-up has slammed part of Staplers Road in Newport shut in the early hours of Wednesday.

Single Vehicle Wreck Blocks Busy Bend

Just after midnight, a red Renault lost control on the notorious sharp bend near the Isle of Wight Lavender farm. The car spun 180 degrees before smashing head-first into a tree and coming to rest wedged in a hedge.

Severe Damage, Driver’s Condition Unknown

The Renault’s front end is badly smashed. Both airbags deployed, but police have yet to confirm any driver injuries.

Bus Routes Diverted – Traffic Nightmare

  • Part of Staplers Road is taped off with one lane closed.
  • Southern Vectis bus service #9 rerouted via Fairlee for the remainder of tonight.
  • Bus company apologises for the disruption, blaming the crash beyond their control.
