Seven Arrested and Crossbow Recovered After Disturbance in Salford

A major police operation was launched in Salford on Tuesday night after reports of a weapon being seen during a disturbance involving a group of youths. Seven people were arrested, and a crossbow was recovered at the scene.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police were called to Romney Street at approximately 9.30pm on April 14, following reports of a disturbance where a firearm was believed to have been sighted.

A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, and six teenagers aged between 16 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of affray.

Police Swiftly Issue Dispersal Order

To prevent further disorder, GMP issued a 24-hour dispersal order covering key streets in the area: Cheetham Street West, Littleton Road, Poppy Lane, Langley Road South, and Lissadel Street. The order gives police powers to disperse individuals and prevent groups from gathering in the designated zone.

Crossbow Seized, No Injuries Reported

A crossbow was recovered during the incident. Despite the potential danger, no injuries were reported, and police confirmed that no one required medical treatment at the scene.

Police Statement

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles praised the fast response of officers:

“Our frontline officer’s rapid response to a concerning report prevented what could have been a dangerous incident from occurring.

“There was a large group of youths gathering in the area, and officers intervened in fights and helped several young people return home safely. Thankfully, no one at the scene required medical treatment.”

He added:

“Our investigation is moving at a pace; we have arrested seven people and taken a weapon off the streets while enquiries are ongoing.

“A police presence will remain in the area as we conduct enquiries and gather evidence. Neighbourhood officers will be patrolling around to provide reassurance to the local community.”
