A heartbreaking scene unfolded on Wednesday, June 12, in Tellico when a 2-year-old girl was discovered unresponsive in a residential swimming pool.
Emergency Services Rush to Rescue
Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:30 p.m. after receiving a distress call reporting a possible drowning. The mother had briefly stepped away while several children played outside, only to find her toddler in the pool upon her return.
CPR Attempted but Child Dies
Officers immediately administered CPR at the scene before the girl was rushed to Sweetwater Hospital. Despite valiant efforts by both deputies and medical staff, the little girl was tragically pronounced dead.
