Knife Attack at Birchington Station: Man Sentenced to Seven Years
A brutal stabbing at Birchington station in January 2022 left the victim fighting for his life. Curtis Webb, 26, of Newton Green, Ashford, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm.
Violent Scene Caught on CCTV
Shortly before 1am on 14 January 2022, the 46-year-old victim arrived at Birchington station car park. Moments later, Webb showed up, having taken a taxi from a Wetherspoons pub in Margate. He approached the driver’s side door, opened it, and a violent confrontation unfolded.
CCTV footage captured Webb launching a frenzied 40-second stabbing attack with a large kitchen knife. The victim fled on foot but was found collapsed on Paddock Road with deep cuts to his head, neck, and shoulders.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
Paramedics rushed the victim to King’s College Hospital in London for emergency surgery. Kent Police soon stopped Webb in a car on the A28 and arrested him. During the arrest, Webb asked officers, “Is the guy all right?” A knife and hammer were recovered from his vehicle.
In a police interview, Webb claimed, “I started to poke him with the knife, I really didn’t think that I was penetrating his coat.”
Investigator Slams Attack, Urges Public to Report Violence
“This was a premeditated, horrific attack that resulted in life-threatening injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Nick Thompson. “Webb’s actions prove he’s a dangerous individual. I’m pleased with the strong sentence. He’s not fit to be in the community.”
He added, “Thankfully, incidents like this on railway property are extremely rare. If you witness violence while travelling, please report it by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
