Fugitive Drug Dealer Busted Cycling in Welwyn Garden City

Louis Okai, 41, who went on the run from prison in December 2020, has finally been caught. He was serving nine years for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs when he absconded.

Snared by Operation Scorpion Team

Officers from the proactive Operation Scorpion spotted Okai cycling down Ludwick Way, Welwyn Garden City, at around 11am on Wednesday, 1 November. A stop and search revealed a stash of drugs and cash.

Double Trouble: False Identity and Fresh Charges

Okai gave false details on arrest, but officers quickly uncovered his true identity. He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, plus escaping lawful custody.

Remanded in custody, Okai pleaded guilty on 30 November. He was slapped with a new four-year and two-month sentence, to run after the remaining 21 months he owed on other drug offences.
