Predator Mark Greenwood Jailed Again After New Sex Assault Claim
Mark Greenwood, 57, from Normanton, was slammed with an extended prison sentence today after a fresh sexual assault charge.
New Victim Comes Forward Years After Original Conviction
Greenwood was first locked up in 2019 at Leeds Crown Court for six sexual offences plus three counts of making indecent images of a child. But his nightmare was far from over.
Following his conviction, a second victim bravely stepped forward, revealing Greenwood abused her when she was just eight years old.
Wakefield Detectives Crack Down Again
Wakefield District Safeguarding Unit detectives launched a fresh probe. Greenwood soon faced sexual assault charges.
In November, he admitted guilt at Leeds Crown Court. Today, the court handed down his sentence and slapped him with a life-long spot on the Sex Offenders’ Register plus an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
“We welcome the extension of Greenwood’s sentence and commend the bravery of the victim and her family for coming forward and speaking with our officers,” said Detective Constable Will Denton.
“There is no doubt that he is a dangerous man who deserves to be imprisoned for an extended period of time. I hope that this outcome encourages other victims to contact our specially trained officers, who work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”
