Swimming Coach Emmanuel Brown Convicted of Sexual Assault
Emmanuel Brown, 60, from Forest Gate, was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault by touching. The verdict came down on 5 December at Wood Green Crown Court. He is set to be sentenced at the same court on 27 February 2023.
Longtime Swimming Instructor Abused Young Pupils
Brown ran swimming lessons at Northumberland Park swimming pool in N17 and had been an instructor since 1995. The court heard how two girls under 13 reported assaults that happened during lessons in June and July 2020.
A third victim later came forward, alleging abuse during her lessons. Two of the assaults occurred between 2010 and 2012, while the most recent happened in 2019.
Detective Calls Brown a Dangerous Predator
Detective Constable Andri Andreou from the North Area Command Unit said:
“I have no doubt that Emmanuel Brown is a dangerous sexual predator who poses a significant risk to young girls. Brown abused his position of trust to carry out sustained sexual assaults – his behaviour is utterly deplorable.
Given the offending spanned over a decade, it’s very likely there are other victims. I urge anyone abused by Brown to come forward. You will be listened to and supported by specially trained officers.
My sincere gratitude goes out to the brave victims and their families. Their resilience made Brown’s conviction possible. I hope this judgement brings them some form of closure and justice.
This case should reassure the public that crimes of this nature will be rigorously investigated and victims can have confidence in coming forward.”
