Pervert Martin Twort Faces Jail Over Shocking 2012 Rape
Martin Twort, 31, is set for a lengthy prison sentence today after a jury at Northampton Crown Court found him guilty of a brutal rape committed over nine years ago. The victim bravely gave evidence during the trial leading to his conviction.
Horrific Attack Uncovered After Years
Twort, once living in Northampton, denied the charge but was unanimously found guilty after less than three hours of jury deliberation. The chilling crime happened on June 10, 2012, when the then-mid-40s victim was walking home from Northampton General Hospital.
She accepted a lift from Twort, who pulled over near Semilong to offer help as she felt unwell. The pair drove around before he steered towards Kingsthorpe and began talking about sex.
In a terrifying turn, he stopped between Moulton and Pitsford, threatened her with a knife, dragged her from the car, and violently raped her. He warned her not to report the attack or face death.
Cold Case Cracked by DNA Match
The victim was found wandering scared at 2.10am by a security guard at Moulton College. Medical exams revealed severe bruising. DNA swabs collected at the time returned no matches, leaving the case unsolved for five years.
Everything changed in July 2017 when Twort was arrested for an unrelated theft in Great Yarmouth. A DNA sample taken then matched the 2012 crime scene evidence, leading police to arrest him for rape.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery & Vow Justice
“The victim has shown tremendous courage. This dangerous and violent man will finally face a long jail sentence,” said DS Julie Gallagher, who led the investigation.
Detective Superintendent Emma James added, “We will continue to fight violence against women and girls, investigating offences no matter how old.”
Twort remains in custody as he awaits sentencing at Northampton Crown Court on December 16.
