Shameless Scammer Rips Off Kind-Hearted Victims
Andrew Alexander, 45, from Park Road, Trowbridge, has been nailed for a string of burglaries and fraud after a brazen week-long crime spree last November.
Fake Emergencies Used to Swindle Cash
Alexander didn’t just steal – he lied his way into people’s homes and wallets. In one stunt, he claimed his wife was in labour to bag £40 from a Corsham woman, then stole her purse worth around £200.
On another occasion, he spun a tale of domestic violence to coerce £30 from a terrified victim after letting himself into their home.
Police Praise Community, Condemn Crook
“Alexander is a prolific offender who would turn up at people’s houses, often in the evening, and put pressure on them to hand over money with completely fabricated stories about illness or emergency situations. He took advantage of kind-hearted members of our community who believed they were genuinely helping someone in need,” Sgt Rich Marshall said.
“His behaviour was disgraceful – people should feel safe and secure within their own homes. By doing what he did, Alexander made members of our community feel frightened in the place they should feel most safe.
We have worked hard to tie these offences together and identify Alexander as the sole offender and I am pleased he has been given a custodial sentence as a result of his deceiving actions.”
Justice served as Alexander was handed a custodial sentence last week, ending his nasty run of scams that preyed on neighbourhood charity and trust.
