Fugitive Nabbed After 27 Years on the Run
Cheshire Police have finally caught a long-time fugitive. Richard Burrows, 80, was arrested at Heathrow Airport after dodging the law for an incredible 27 years. The wanted man was picked up as he returned to the UK from Thailand.
27 Years Evading Justice
Burrows has been on the run since December 1997, after failing to appear in court. His decades-long escape ends now, thanks to relentless police work.
Joint Police Effort Brings Arrest
The arrest was a team effort between Cheshire Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) International. Detective Inspector Eleanor Atkinson praised the determination of officers involved.
“I would like to thank the public for the information they have provided over the years during our search for Burrows and I hope that his arrest provides some reassurance,” DI Atkinson said. “I also hope that his arrest acts as a warning to any other wanted suspects – demonstrating that no matter how long you hide, we will find you and you will be arrested.”
Duncan Burrage, NCA International Liaison Officer in Thailand, added that the teamwork highlights law enforcement’s commitment to delivering justice for victims.
Next Steps for Burrows
Burrows is now in custody and will appear at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, April 2. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Cheshire Police via their website or by calling 101.
This arrest sends a strong message: no matter how long it takes, fugitives cannot escape justice forever.
