Dr Edward Finn Jailed for 12 Years Over Shocking Child Sex Crimes

Dr Edward Finn, 36, an anaesthetist, has been handed a lengthy 12-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to horrific sexual offences involving children and adults. The chilling sentencing took place at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Grotesque Crimes Spanning Eight Years

Finn’s depraved actions stretched from July 2015 to November 2023. His charges included:

  1. Sexual Assault of a Child: Admitting to sexually assaulting a child under 13 by inappropriate touching.
  2. Indecent Photographs of Children: Three counts of making indecent photos and three counts of taking them.
  3. Voyeurism: Secretly recording images beneath the clothing of a female patient at Derby Royal Infirmary in 2015 without consent, plus another voyeurism offence involving an adult he knew.

Extended Sentence and Tough Legal Orders

The court imposed an extended sentence of eight years in custody plus a four-year extension. Finn must also comply with several strict orders:

  • Sex Offenders’ Register: He must sign up indefinitely.
  • Sexual Harm Prevention Order: An indefinite order to stop him causing further sexual harm.
  • Restraining Order: Another indefinite order forbidding contact with his victims.

Police Praise Victims and Urge Reporting

Detective Constable Sarah Clarke from Nottinghamshire Police’s public protection unit praised the victims for their bravery throughout the investigation. She stressed the police take all reports seriously, no matter who the accused is.

“We commend the courage of the victims and want to assure the public that Nottinghamshire Police is relentless in pursuing justice,” said DC Clarke.

Judge Michael Auty KC also praised Detective Constable Clarke’s thorough, dignified investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Lefford, in charge of children’s protection, reassured the public there is no evidence of wider offending by Finn. He urged anyone suspecting they might be a victim to come forward to police or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
