William Malcolm Convicted of Multiple Sexual Offences
William “Bill” Malcolm, 61, has been slammed by a Newcastle Crown Court jury after being found guilty of a string of horrific offences at a North East care home. Malcolm, from West Hope Close, South Shields, was convicted of 10 counts of sexual assault, two counts of ill-treatment of a person in care, and one count of racially aggravated harassment.
Abuse of Vulnerable Residents and Staff Revealed
The court heard chilling testimony of Malcolm’s vile behaviour towards both residents and colleagues. He was guilty of repeatedly kissing and cuddling two vulnerable female residents without consent. In a particularly shocking moment, he thrust his hips towards one patient sitting in a rocking chair, an act the victim vehemently rejected.
Malcolm also sexually assaulted three women who were not residents. Witnesses revealed he regularly hurled racist and homophobic insults at staff and residents. One colleague branded his conduct “disgusting,” describing his foul-mouthed verbal abuse including degrading comments about bodies.
Judge Orders Mental Health Assessment Ahead of Sentencing
Malcolm was found guilty on every charge. The judge has now ordered a mental health assessment before sentencing, which is due on April 30. Meanwhile, Malcolm remains out on bail.
Community Outraged as Safeguarding Concerns Rise
The case has rocked the local community, sparking outrage and fears for the safety of vulnerable people in care. A spokesperson for the care provider said:
“We are appalled by the actions of this individual. We take the safety and dignity of our residents and staff extremely seriously, and we continue to support those affected during this difficult time.”
