Caerphilly Man Caught After Killing Protected Badger and Disturbing Red Kites

Guilty of Wildlife Crimes

Dewi James Price, 39, from Commercial Street, New Tredegar, Caerphilly, has been found guilty of illegally hunting and killing a badger. The court also convicted him of offences against the protected red kite bird.

Evidence from 2018 and 2019

Price illegally killed a badger in Builth Wells, Powys, on February 18, 2018. He was also guilty of taking a red kite in Gelligaer, Caerphilly, on May 19, 2019. In addition, he disturbed red kite nests and their young, actions that carry strict penalties.

Next Steps: Prison Sentence Pending

Price denied all charges during the trial at Newport Magistrates’ Court. However, the evidence led to a guilty verdict. His sentencing is set for December 23 at Newport Crown Court. Meanwhile, Price has been released on conditional bail.
