Motorcyclist Killed in High-Speed Chase Crash in Central London
A police pursuit through London’s streets ended in tragedy early Monday morning. The rider of a motorcycle died after colliding with a taxi and street furniture near Warren Street tube station.
Chase Started After Motorcycle Ignored Red Light
At around 6.45am on 25 September, two officers on marked police motorcycles spotted a bike run a red light. The motorcycle, carrying two men, took off as police gave chase through Tottenham Court Road.
Pillion Passenger Caught with Machete, Hospitalised After Crash
The pursuit ended in disaster when the motorbike smashed into a taxi and street fixtures. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shockingly, the pillion passenger was found carrying a machete. He was arrested at the scene and rushed to hospital with serious leg and arm injuries.
Police and Independent Watchdogs Launch Investigations
The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards have opened an inquiry. They’re working with the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command to piece together what happened.
Meanwhile, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been notified and started its own probe to ensure full transparency.
