Gangs Snatch Phone After Brutal Attack Near Tottenham Court Road

Victim Ambushed and Robbed on Bedford Avenue

Police rushed to Bedford Avenue, close to Tottenham Court Road, around 9pm on Tuesday, 14 February, following reports of a robbery. A man in his twenties was walking when he was confronted by a suspect demanding his coat and wallet.

Trying to escape, the victim found himself surrounded by a group of males who violently threw him to the ground. The gang then assaulted him, leaving minor injuries, before making off with his mobile phone.

Fast Police Action Leads to Arrests

Officers from the Violent Crime Taskforce (VCTF) were already patrolling nearby when the crime was reported. Swift investigations pinpointed a group of five males aged 17 to 18 in Waltham Forest matching the suspects’ description.

About an hour after the attack, police caught and searched the group, recovering the victim’s stolen phone from one suspect. All five were arrested and remain in custody on suspicion of robbery as inquiries continue.

“This was a terrifying experience for the victim, who sadly received some minor injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Ross Smith of the VCTF. “Robbery is a violent crime with long-lasting impacts.”

“Tackling street violence is a top priority. These arrests demonstrate our commitment to making London safer.”

“We urge victims and witnesses to contact police straight away. The first hour, the ‘golden hour,’ is crucial for catching offenders.”
