Baddies Jailed for Tricking 90-Year-Old Woman and Stealing Treasured Engagement Ring

Distraction Burglars Target Elderly Woman in Margate

Two thugs have been locked up for over three years each after conning their way into a 90-year-old’s home in Thanet and swiping her handbag. Christopher McDonagh and Bradley Thompson pulled a cruel stunt on the vulnerable pensioner in her Mill Lane house, Margate.

Fake Relative Ruse Leads to Theft of Cash, Cards & Priceless Ring

On the evening of June 11, 2020, the pair buzzed her door pretending to be visiting relatives. The poor lady, trusting them, let them in via the front door intercom. But she quickly saw through the lie and told them to leave.

The crooks stirred up a fuss instead of going quietly, and slipped out with her handbag. Inside were cash, bank cards, and her priceless engagement ring – a lifetime keepsake.

CCTV Snaps Crooks, Court Locks Them Up

Kent Police launched a probe and used CCTV to nail the duo. McDonagh, 43, of William Avenue, Margate, copped three years and four months at Canterbury Crown Court on July 22.

Thompson, 44, who’s homeless, initially denied the charge but later pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to three years and nine months on September 22.

Detective Slams Callous Crime Against Elderly Victim

“They targeted the property because of her age – that’s just disgraceful,” Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said. “They stole items both financially and sentimentally valuable. That engagement ring can never be replaced.” “To see two men treat a lone elderly woman like that shows a shocking lack of decency. She must have been terrified. I hope knowing they’re behind bars brings her some peace.”
