A 35-year-old man from Sussex has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and theft. The arrest follows the tragic death of a 34-year-old employee crushed between two shipping containers at Portsmouth International Port on Friday evening.

Police were called to the port at 6.51pm after the body of the man, who worked for MMD Shipping Services, was discovered at their Prospect Road site on Flathouse Quay. The shocking incident has sent ripples through the local shipping community.

Health and Safety Executive Launches Probe

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed it is investigating the fatal incident. A spokesperson said, “HSE Inspectors attended the site last night and a joint investigation with Hampshire police into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death is under way.
