Zane Donovan Jailed for Sexual Assault on London Tube
Zane Donovan, 25, from Dagenham, has been locked up for 41 weeks after pleading guilty to sexual assault on a packed London Underground train. The court slapped him with a 10-year sex offender registration and a strict five-year sexual harm prevention order.
Shameful Attack on Pregnant Woman
The victim, a pregnant woman, was travelling on the Victoria Line from Green Park station on the evening of Friday, March 25. She immediately felt Donovan pressing his groin against her from behind for around 20 seconds.
When confronted, Donovan shamelessly claimed, “How do you want me to stand? I have no space,” before hopping off the train at Victoria Station.
Caught on CCTV, Brought to Justice
Police tracked Donovan down using CCTV footage and arrested him days after the incident. At Inner London Crown Court on Wednesday 22 June, Donovan was sentenced and ordered to keep away from any unknown females in public, including on public transport.
Police Urge Victims and Witnesses to Speak Up
Detective Constable Brittany Armstrong of British Transport Police said:
“This incident was particularly alarming and distressing for the victim, and I’m pleased to see Donovan behind bars for such inappropriate behaviour.
She added:
“Some may not report such offences thinking they’re minor, especially in busy settings. But sexual assault is a serious crime — offenders will be punished.”
If you witness or experience sexual harassment on the transport network, text British Transport Police confidentially on 61016 or speak directly with an officer. Authorities promise to take all reports seriously.
