Beckenham Sex Offender Jailed Again for Breaching Court Order
Jamie Gillett, 26, of Beckenham Road, Beckenham, is back behind bars for breaking a sexual harm prevention order. Previously locked up for four-and-a-half years in 2018 for multiple sexual assaults on underage girls, Gillett’s latest breach has landed him a fresh prison stint.
Social Media Used to Target Victims
Gillett’s original crimes included sexually assaulting a girl under 13, and engaging in sexual activity with girls under 16, some involving penetration. He preyed on victims using social media apps, showing threatening and obsessive behaviour.
Breaking Strict Release Conditions
After being freed in June 2023, Gillett was subject to tight restrictions: no contact with children, no phones or internet access. Yet just months later, he broke the rules. Prosecutor Nikki James told the Old Bailey that in September, Gillett failed to declare a relationship to police and secretly possessed two mobile phones. He’d downloaded banned apps like Snapchat and TikTok on a hidden second device and tried to erase his internet search history.
Jailed Again for Public Safety
Gillett admitted four counts of breaching the sexual harm prevention order. He told Judge Anthony Leonard, “I have hurt another innocent person. I know I am better than this.”
Judge Leonard wasn’t convinced. He said prison was needed not only to punish Gillett but to protect women from further harm.
Gillett was sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars. This case highlights the courts’ hard line against sexual offenders who refuse to follow the rules and the ongoing fight to safeguard potential victims.
