Dog Distraction Behind the Wheel Lands Driver in Jail After Pedestrian Crash

A driver who crashed into a pedestrian after being distracted by his dog has been jailed for 15 months. Louis Bond, 24, of Fairlawn Road, was caught after running a red light and hitting a 78-year-old woman in Tadley.

BMW Driver Turns Around to Tame Escaped Dog

On January 17, 2019, Bond’s dog jumped from the back seat to the passenger side. He turned to put the dog back, missing the red light and crashing into the elderly pedestrian.

Victim Suffers Severe Injuries

  • Two broken legs
  • Broken right shoulder
  • Brain bleed

The woman spent over three months in hospital and now needs a walking frame. Bond pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Justice Served: Jail Time and Driving Ban

Bond was sentenced on January 20 to 15 months behind bars. He faces a two-year driving ban once released.

PC Chris Brown of the Roads Policing Unit warned, “This case should serve as a warning to dog owners about just how dangerous not securing your dog in the car can be.”

“The victim was left with extremely serious injuries and it is lucky that she was not killed.”

The Highway Code says all pets must be restrained in vehicles to prevent distractions and injuries. Failure to do so can be deadly.”
