Teen Stabbed in Ladywood Dies as Murder Probe Kicks Off
A murder investigation is underway after Akeem Bailey, a teenager stabbed in Ladywood last Sunday (30 October), tragically died.
Stabbed Teen Dies After Battle for Life
Akeem was found with severe stab wounds around 6pm on Springfield Street. He was rushed to hospital and placed in an induced coma, but his injuries proved fatal. He passed away on Friday night.
A 17-year-old boy who was injured in the same attack was also hospitalised but has since been discharged.
Police Plea for Info as Suspect Faces Charges
Detective Inspector Jim Colclough from the homicide unit said: “We’ll do all we can to support Akeem’s loved ones during this deeply distressing time.”
He urged the community to come forward with information: “If you don’t want to speak to us directly, you can give info anonymously. Tell them what you know, not who you are.”
Suspect Held on Murder and Weapon Charges
Zechariah Nelson, 18, of no fixed address, has been charged with murder, wounding, and possession of a bladed article. He is remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (7 November).
