Man Jailed for Terrifying Abuse Campaign in Rushden

A 42-year-old man has been locked up for over four years after unleashing a relentless campaign of abuse against a woman in Rushden. Mohammed Miah, who has no fixed address, was sentenced to four years and one month behind bars at Northampton Crown Court on November 4.

He was also slapped with a five-year restraining order, banning any contact with the victim except through professional channels.

Chilling Abuse Carried Out in Front of Children

The court heard how, between April 21 and June 14 this year, Miah repeatedly assaulted the woman at her home—often in front of her terrified children. On one horrifying occasion, he grabbed her throat with both hands, strangling her.

In a dreadful phone call, Miah threatened to mutilate her face to get his demands met. Despite her desperate pleas, he flooded her with relentless calls and texts.

Violent Threats Escalate Out of Control

  • On June 13, after she ignored his spam calls, Miah ramped up his threats of violence against her and her family.
  • He even made a chilling promise to kill her.
  • The following day, he bombarded her phone with over 50 calls.
  • Miah then aggressively confronted her while she was driving to her parents’ home with her children and mum.
  • When she refused to unlock the car door, he furiously banged on the window, shouting abuse.

Arrest and String of Charges

Northamptonshire Police arrested Miah shortly after. Officers discovered a utility knife in his vehicle.

He now faces multiple serious charges, including:

  • Controlling and coercive behaviour
  • Stalking with fear of violence
  • Assault causing actual bodily harm
  • Intentional strangulation
  • Possession of a knife in a public place

Justice has finally caught up with Mohammed Miah, ensuring he is locked away and can’t hurt his victim again anytime soon.
