Police Chief Speaks Out

“Yesterday a 17-year-old girl lost her life, and I want to express my deepest sympathies to this girl’s family and friends. Her death is a tragedy,” said Acting Detective Chief Superintendent John Ross of the East Area Command Unit.

“We’re doing everything to find and bring to justice those responsible. It’s days like these that remind us we must battle knife crime relentlessly.

“We’re increasing patrols in Harold Hill. If you saw or heard anything, even the smallest detail, please speak to the police. Your tip could save lives and take knives off our streets.”

Ross added that while knife crime involving under-25s has fallen since mid-last year, the Met is far from complacent. Tackling violent crime is a top priority, and the community’s help is crucial.
