Grandad Dies After Horror House Blaze – Murder Probe Launched
West Midlands Police are hunting answers after 82-year-old John Edwards died from injuries sustained in a terrifying house fire in Wednesbury.

Emergency crews raced to a devastating blaze on Holyhead Road in the early hours of Sunday, 11 May. Four people were seriously hurt, including John Edwards, who battled for life in hospital. On Sunday, 25 May, police confirmed the sad news that Mr Edwards had passed away.
Man Charged as Police Probe Turns Deadly
53-year-old Andrew Gorrell from Saltney, Chester, was already charged with arson and three counts of grievous bodily harm with intent after the fire. He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.
Now police are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to review and possibly upgrade charges following Mr Edwards’ death.
Three others remain in critical but stable condition in hospital.
Police Plea for Witnesses and Crucial Footage
Officers urge anyone who was near Holyhead Road on the evening of Saturday 10 May or early hours of Sunday 11 May to speak up. Police are especially keen to hear from anyone with dashcam, doorbell videos, or photos that might shed light on the events leading to the blaze.

“Our thoughts are with Mr Edwards’ family at this difficult time. We remain in close contact with them and they are being supported by our specialist officers,” said a police spokesperson.
