Cooking Oil Theft Hits Kennington Twice

Thieves hit a Kennington business twice in June 2022, stealing valuable cooking oil. The local police were tipped off and launched an investigation.

Van Stop Leads to Arrests

On 5 July, officers stopped a suspicious van on Fougeres Way. Two men in their twenties from north London were arrested for theft. Both were later released on bail as inquiries continue.

Police Warn Businesses to Beef Up Security

Ashford District Commander Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes urged businesses storing cooking oil to tighten security. He said:

“Make sure containers aren’t left in plain sight. Review your alarms and CCTV. These not only deter thieves but help catch offenders and recover stolen goods.”

“Ensure storage areas are well-lit. Keep wheelie bins away, so they can’t be used to break in or climb fences.”

Businesses are warned to stay vigilant to stop the next slick heist in its tracks.
