Leeds fan David Ellis Jailed for Racist Abuse at Football Match
David Ellis, 39, from Pottery Lane, York, has been handed 16 weeks behind bars at Leeds Magistrates Court on April 6. The Leeds District Police swiftly acted after Ellis was identified abusing fellow fans while supporting Leeds United.
Racism Crackdown at Football Grounds
Detective Sergeant Rob Kennerley, who led the investigation, slammed Ellis’s “abhorrent behaviour” and vowed zero tolerance for racism in football and beyond.
“We will always take reports of hate crime seriously and do everything we can to support victims and take positive action against offenders,” Kennerley said.
Fans Unite Against Hate
The incident showed that other fans will not stand for racist abuse and are ready to challenge it head-on. Leeds Police continue working closely with Leeds United to stamp out hate crime.
Kennerley urged anyone witnessing racist or hateful acts to report them immediately to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
