Scarborough Rapist Jailed for Two Years and Nine Months
Szczepan Zenon Malczewski, 38, from Eastfield, has been locked up for raping a young woman in a Scarborough pub toilet.
Terrifying Attack in Town Centre Pub
The attack happened around 10:40pm on Tuesday 7 May 2024, at a busy pub in the town centre. The victim, a woman in her early 20s, had been out with friends before leaving to head home.
Malczewski followed her into the toilets and trapped her inside. Despite her repeated pleas for him to stop, he sexually assaulted her for about 10 minutes.
Police Acted Fast – Rapist Caught on CCTV
Uniformed officers were called to the scene shortly afterwards and arrested Malczewski nearby.
Detective Constable Nick Burton, leading the investigation, pieced together damning evidence from the scene, including CCTV footage capturing Malczewski’s aggressive behaviour before and after the attack.
DC Burton said: “The CCTV clearly showed Malczewski’s movements and his aggressive demeanour towards the victim. She suffered a horrendous attack and was in a state of collapse after he finally released her.
“He admitted in interview that she never consented and expressed shame when he saw the footage of his behaviour afterwards.”
“The victim has been incredibly brave throughout. I hope she finds some comfort in knowing her attacker will spend years behind bars and be monitored for life.”
Sex Offender Added to Register Indefinitely
Malczewski was sentenced today (Friday 2 August 2024) at York Crown Court. He admitted both the rape and sexual assault by penetration.
He has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, ensuring police keep a close eye on him for life.
