Shoplifter Busted in Canterbury and Folkestone After String of Thefts
Leeroy Washington Faces Multiple Theft Charges
Leeroy Washington, 44, with no fixed address, is in hot water over a spree of thefts across Canterbury and Folkestone. The suspected shoplifter was charged on 27 February 2020 with stealing bottles of pink gin and vodka from Waitrose in Canterbury, plus cider and other items from Sainsbury’s stores in both towns.

- 7 & 8 February: Five bottles of pink gin stolen from Waitrose, Canterbury
- 17 February: Two bottles of Grey Goose vodka taken from Waitrose, Canterbury
- 20 February: Cider stolen from Sainsbury’s, Canterbury
- 26 February: Speaker and toiletries nicked from Sainsbury’s, Folkestone
Additional Charges Add to His Troubles
Washington was also hit with charges on 28 February linked to incidents dating back to last October, including:
- Stealing six bottles of alcohol from Marks & Spencer, Canterbury (1 October 2019)
- Assaulting a police officer (10 October 2019)
- Damaging a shop window (19 February 2020)
- Stealing earrings from Claire’s Accessories (7 February 2020)
Next Court Date Set
Washington appeared at Canterbury Magistrates’ Court on 29 February, where he was remanded in custody. His case returns to court on 12 March at Thanet Magistrates’ Court.
