A 19-year-old has been found guilty of murdering a man in Deptford after a tireless Met Police investigation. The shocking attack began over a stolen bike and ended in tragedy.
Knife Attack Over Stolen Bike Ends in Murder
Jackson Uwagboe, 19, from Lewisham, was convicted at the Old Bailey of murdering 21-year-old Robert Robinson in a brutal knife attack. The savage stabbing was sparked by a dispute over a stolen bicycle. Uwagboe also faces charges of robbery and carrying a bladed weapon.
The fatal stabbing happened on Carteret Way on 6 June 2024. Robert was chased down and stabbed 12 times, suffering defensive wounds as he tried to protect himself.
Accomplices Behind Bars and The Great Escape
Two other killers, Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, 19, had already been jailed with life sentences last year for the same murder.
A co-defendant, 24-year-old Eromosele Omoluogbe, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice. He helped Uwagboe escape by driving him to Heathrow Airport and booking a £1,129 flight to Nigeria.
Uwagboe later returned to the UK and was arrested at Gatwick Airport in February 2025.
Detective’s Praise for Relentless Investigation
“Robert was subjected to a brutal and sustained attack by men armed with knives. His claims of self-defence were entirely without foundation,” said Detective Inspector Neil Tovey.
“The Robinson family showed immense dignity throughout two trials despite the pain of hearing excuses. This case highlights our relentless fight against knife crime in London.”
Police pieced together the case with hundreds of hours of CCTV, phone records, bank data, and witness statements. DNA analysed linked the weapons directly to the killers.
The Deadly Chain of Events
- Uwagboe robbed a 17-year-old of a bike and phone earlier on Deptford High Street.
- Robert and his group visited an associate’s flat to confront Uwagboe.
- With no response, some cars owned by one suspect’s family were damaged in retaliation.
- Uwagboe, Wedderburn, and Harris, armed with machetes, hunted down Robert.
- Robert was stabbed to death despite emergency aid efforts.
Sentencing for Uwagboe and Omoluogbe will be announced soon at the Old Bailey.
