Daniel McBride, driving a black Mercedes, died after smashing into two parked cars at the Coalbrook Road junction on Retford Road. The deadly crash happened shortly after a brief police chase.

Chase Triggered by Passing Police Car

The drama unfolded around 11pm on Monday, April 10, when McBride drove past a police vehicle heading the opposite way. Trying to dodge the law, he led officers on a 13-second chase that ended in disaster.

IOPC Launches Full Investigation

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has now stepped in to probe every detail of the incident. They’re focusing on South Yorkshire Police’s role and whether procedures were properly followed during the pursuit.

Evidence Being Reviewed

Emily Barry, IOPC Regional Director, stressed the legal duty for police forces to report incidents causing death or serious injury to the watchdog.

Investigators have already collected statements from officers involved, alongside dashcam and local CCTV footage to piece together what really happened.
