His accomplice, 33-year-old Shane Peter Smith from Portland, received a seven-year sentence at Bournemouth Crown Court on 20 March 2023.

Masked Attack Shocks Hereford Neighbourhood

The chilling incident unfolded at around 5.15pm on Sunday, 14 August 2022. Smith forced his way into a home on Hereford Road, demanding the occupant’s wallet. When the victim refused, Smith launched an assault.

That’s when Grimshaw entered, wearing a Halloween Scream mask. He also attacked the victim before a brave neighbour burst in to defend the homeowner.

In the ensuing struggle, the neighbour was punched in the face, but the thugs fled the scene shortly after.

Quick Police Work Nets Swift Arrests

The victim reported the horrifying ordeal to Dorset Police immediately. Officers circulated descriptions of the culprits, quickly locating and arresting Grimshaw and Smith nearby.

At sentencing, the courageous neighbour was praised by the judge for stepping in during the violent attack.

Detective Hails Justice After ‘Horrific Experience’

“This was an extremely frightening incident for the two victims,” said Detective Constable Kate Rhodes of Dorset County CID.

“I want to thank the victims for their support throughout what has been a very difficult investigation. The officers responded brilliantly under pressure, ensuring everyone’s safety and bringing these criminals to justice.”

“The robust sentences passed today send a clear message – crime will not be tolerated.”
