Police and Family Speak Out on Knife Crime Tragedy
Detective Superintendent Alan Weekes condemned the attack as a “terrible example of the dreadful consequences of knife crime.”
“These males were prepared to use appalling violence, almost on a whim. Anyone who acts like this has no place on our streets.”
Harley’s family shared their heartbreak:
“He won’t ever get married, have kids, get a job or drive a car. You two get to live your lives, Harley doesn’t. You have destroyed a whole family.” – Harley’s mother “We can’t understand why anyone would do this. Seeing those who murdered our little brother in court has affected us for life. You didn’t just take Harley’s life—you’ve torn our family apart.” – Harley’s sisters
Kirklees Police Chief Superintendent Jim Griffiths highlighted ongoing efforts to tackle youth violence:
“Knife crime offences involving under-25s are down 21% in Kirklees over the past year. But that offers little comfort to victims. We’re committed to reducing violence through education and enforcement, working closely with our communities.”
Operation Jemlock teams and the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit continue their fight against knife crime, targeting offenders and educating tens of thousands of young people across the region.
