Parcel Theft Bust in East Ham Ends in High-Speed Chase

At 2.30pm on Tuesday, 22 October, police in Newham, backed by the Flying Squad, stopped a car on High Street South, East Ham. The driver, a man in his 50s, was arrested for theft from a parcel delivery van, failing to stop for police, and multiple driving offences.

Stolen Parcels Found Inside Vehicle

Officers discovered the man carrying several parcels believed to have been stolen less than 30 minutes earlier. Three masked men had swiftly broken into a parcel van while its driver stepped out to deliver a package in Newham.

Police are still hunting two other suspects connected to the robbery.

Chase Ends in Crashes with Police Cars

In a desperate bid to escape arrest, the suspect crashed his vehicle into three police cars. Remarkably, no officers were hurt. The man was taken to hospital as a precaution due to injuries from the collisions.

DCI Laura Hillier, Specialist Crime, said: “Our taskforce, including Met and Flying Squad detectives, is fighting back against parcel crime targeting delivery firms and their staff.

One suspect learned today we’re using sharp tactics and plenty of resources to catch those responsible.
