Man Found Dead in Dorset Alleyway Sparks Murder Probe
Dorset Police were called at 3.13pm on Friday 14 January 2022 after a man in his 50s was found unresponsive in an alley at the end of Shelbourne Road. Ambulance crews attended, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspicious Circumstances Uncovered
Initially, police believed the death was not suspicious. But further investigations revealed troubling details, including the use of the victim’s bank cards after his death. Detectives launched a public appeal on 24 January, asking for information about unusual activity near the alleyway.
Post-Mortem Confirms Death by Injury
A forensic post-mortem on 26 January confirmed the man died from injuries sustained, leading Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team to open a murder investigation.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Dudfield said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this very difficult time. Following the post-mortem, several arrests have been made.”
Four Arrested as Police Hunt Witnesses
- Three Bournemouth men aged 28 and 30 arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery.
- A 27-year-old local woman arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
- All remain in police custody.
Detectives identified a critical window between 2.50pm and 3.05pm on the day of the incident. They urge anyone who saw people entering or fleeing the alley near the A338 Wessex Way between Shelbourne Road and Malmesbury Park Road to come forward. CCTV or dashcam footage could prove vital.
Local officers will patrol the area and are available to address any community concerns.
