Rural Crime Crackdown Targets Cross-Border Crooks
Specialist police teams swooped on rural hotspots in the north of the county, targeting criminals crossing over from Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire. The force deployed neighbourhood officers, Operation Reacher units, off-road and drone squads, a sniffer dog, and multiple pursuit vehicles to patrol country lanes and farmland.
Two Arrested in Nighttime Sting
Last night (20 October), a 20-year-old man was nabbed on Blyth Road, Oldcotes, suspected of drug driving. Minutes later, cops stopped another car on Lamb Lane, uncovering a stash including a lock-picking kit, bolt croppers, and an electronic device used to hack vehicle security.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being equipped to steal, possession of Class A drugs, and carrying an offensive weapon. In total, seven vehicles were taken off the roads for various offences during the operation.
Police Warn Criminals: Rural Areas Are No Soft Target
“We are working hard with our partners to tackle rural crime and to prevent the type of acquisitive offences that cause so much upset in our rural communities,” said Inspector Hayley Crawford, District Commander for Bassetlaw.
“Residents have felt isolated, but we are listening and responding to their concerns. Many burglaries and thefts here are done by criminals crossing borders from other police areas.
“Our operation catches offenders off-guard with a powerful police presence when and where they least expect it.
“This sends a clear message to roaming criminals: our rural communities won’t be soft targets. Those who prey on them are likely to face a police officer.”
