Police Dog Tracks Down Dangerous Driver in Canterbury

Shortly before 3am on Saturday 12 March 2022, police spotted a car being driven dangerously on St Stephen’s Hill, Canterbury. When officers signalled for the vehicle to stop, it fled the scene.

Car Abandoned, Police Dog Called In

The runaway car was found abandoned on Broadbank Way minutes later. Police immediately called in their canine unit to track the driver.

Police Dog Yankee and his handler, who were nearby, picked up the scent. Yankee led them half a mile away to 1 Park, where a man matching the driver’s description was found and detained.

Man Arrested on Multiple Charges

The man, in his 30s and from Ashford, was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Failing to stop for police
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving while disqualified

He has since been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries.
