Gruesome Attack: Victim Fears Death in Frantic 999 Call
A chilling 999 call reveals the victim screaming he was going to die during a brutal assault in Blackburn. Lindsay Harkin, 29, formerly of Swift Close, has been sentenced at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to wounding with intent, robbery, and carrying a bladed weapon.
CCTV Captures Bloody Escape
The horrific attack happened on Lower Hollin Bank Street at around 7:50pm on July 1, 2020. CCTV footage from a nearby property shows Harkin fleeing the scene with a knife, alongside the victim’s stolen mobile phone and wallet case.
The 35-year-old victim, covered in blood, is seen staggering down the street before desperately banging on a neighbour’s door for help. A local resident called emergency services as the man collapsed on the pavement.
Heroic Rescue and Police Response
The victim was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital where doctors fought to save his life. Detective Sergeant Steve Munro of Lancashire Police slammed the attack as “totally intolerable.”
“Harkin befriended his victim and took advantage of his generous nature before launching an unprovoked attack on him,” DS Munro said.
“The message is clear: commit this heinous crime in Lancashire, and you will be caught and punished.”
DC Steve O’Boyle, who helped arrest Harkin following a police appeal, praised the victim’s bravery.
“The impact of this ordeal on the victim has been huge. I hope this sentence gives him some closure so he can move on with his life.”
