Hate Hit Pride Flags Smeared in Forest Gate Vandal Attacks

Detectives are on the hunt after Pride flags were defaced in two brazen homophobic attacks near Forest Gate Railway Station, Newham. The brazen vandalism has sent shockwaves through the local LGBTQ+ community, stirring outrage and concern.

Linked Hate Crimes Under Police Lens

The North East Area’s Public Protection Unit is treating the incidents as connected. The first attack struck at dawn on Sunday, June 23, when a large painted Pride flag on Woodgrange Road was splattered with red paint. Just days later, on Wednesday, June 26, two more flags at the same spot suffered criminal damage.

Community Outraged, Police Vow Justice

Detective Inspector James Rush spoke out about the impact:

“We recognise these offences have caused serious distress, especially coming during Pride Month and ahead of London Pride. This kind of hate crime is intimidating and unacceptable. We are committed to hunting down those responsible and stopping this in its tracks.”

DI Rush confirmed a thorough investigation is underway and officers are checking if the attacks link to earlier vandalism at the same location, including one from March.

Witnesses Urged to Speak Up

The police want anyone who saw suspicious behaviour on the nights of June 23 or June 26 to come forward. Drivers with dash cam footage of the area during those times are urged to share it to aid the investigation.

No arrests have been made yet. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 2433/23Jun, visit their local police station, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
