Gunbattle Erupts Near Brixton O2 Academy Shuts Roads
Chaos hit Brixton in the early hours of Sunday as a fierce gunbattle broke out yards from the iconic O2 Academy. Stockwell Road and Benedict Road were shut down both ways after shots rang out just past 3am on November 27.
Armed Police and Medics Rush to Scene
Armed officers from the Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service responded swiftly after reports a man was shot on Benedict Road near Stockwell Road. The area was swiftly cordoned off as Trident officers launched a full-scale investigation.
Bullet Casings, Damaged Cars & Manhunt Underway
- Police found multiple 6mm bullets and casings scattered on the road, now covered in plastic bags.
- A black Mercedes with visible damage was seized as officers searched the vehicle for clues.
- A white BMW parked in the middle of Stockwell Road had all its windows smashed. The driver is believed to have been riddled with gunfire while fleeing the initial shooting.
No arrests have been made yet. Police are trawling nearby CCTV to track down the gunman. A large manhunt is underway.
Transport Disrupted as Investigation Continues
Bus services on routes 2, 196, 322, 333, 345, and N2 have been affected by closures. Additional roads, including near the junction of Rumsey Road, remain blocked as officers comb the scene.
The Met Police have been approached for comment. The area remains a no-go zone while the furious investigation continues.
