Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, is on the ropes after claiming rioters were trying to “uphold British values” during recent UK unrest. The violent protests erupted following the brutal killings of three girls in Southport.
Jones Targets Immigration and Labour Government
In a statement that has ignited fury, Jones slammed the government’s immigration policy and the Labour Party’s take on British values. She questioned: “What is the government’s solution to mass uncontrolled immigration? How will the new Labour government uphold and build on British values?”
Her words suggested the riots were a reaction to government failures, sparking calls that she’s excusing violent behaviour instead of calling for calm.
Calls for Resignation Grow Louder
Eastleigh MP Liz Jarvis slammed Jones’ comments as “divisive, inflammatory, and grossly irresponsible.” She added, “Her position is clearly untenable.”
Winchester’s new MP Danny Chambers backed the demand, saying Jones “should be considering her position.”
Police and Crime Panel Weighs Up Response
The Hampshire Police and Crime Panel, which oversees Jones, has acknowledged complaints but hasn’t revealed any formal action yet. A spokesperson said the panel will follow their usual procedures when dealing with complaints.
