Tyne & Wear Family Targeted in Midnight Bike Heist
In the dead of night on October 2, 2024, a family in Rhyope, Tyne & Wear, woke to a nightmare. While they slept, burglars smashed into their garage and stole a stash of top-tier bikes and gear.
Thieves Caught on Camera in Bold Break-In
Four masked crooks were spotted on a neighbour’s CCTV, sneaking up and forcing open the garage door. They made off with three high-end bicycles and a set of Santa Cruz Reserve Alloy wheels, leaving other expensive items untouched.
What Was Stolen?
- 2022 Mondraker Level R – Black and yellow, fully loaded with AXS groupset, dropper post, Hope Tech 4 V4 brakes, and DT Swiss EX511 rims on blue Industry Nine hubs.
- 2019 Specialised S-Works Stumpjumper – Sleek all-black with white branding and black/silver Tech 4 E4 brakes.
- 2019 YT Tues DH Bike – Equipped with standout yellow Ohlins forks and Magura MT7 Raceline brakes.
- Santa Cruz Reserve Alloy Wheels – Featuring XD freehub and Filmore Valves.
Police Hunt for Crooks After Precise, Targeted Theft
The homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous, believes the thieves knew exactly what they were after. They ignored a P7 frame and thousands of pounds worth of tools left behind.
Police have launched an investigation with case number 116617G/24. CCTV shows a dark Volkswagen Golf driving in and out of the estate between 3am and 4.30am. Two suspects were caught riding stolen bikes out at 3:36am, closely followed by the suspicious car.
Authorities are now combing ANPR footage along Stockton Road to trace the criminals’ escape route.
