Youths Run Riot Despite Police Blitz
Despite increased patrols, trouble isn’t slowing down. Just this lunchtime, a large gang of teens took over the area, playing football and hurling balls dangerously close to an elderly couple enjoying the sunshine. Bystanders watched on, amused but alarmed. Local residents have been pleading with police to get a grip as both teenagers and adults continue to wreak havoc in public spaces.
Violence Erupts Near Marks and Spencer’s
Tensions boiled over yesterday when a fight broke out involving Medina College pupils. One teen was attacked outside Marks and Spencer’s before fleeing to St Thomas Square, where police scrambled to intervene. The incident has rattled the community and highlighted the urgent need for crackdown measures.
Strong Warning from Police
Inspector Rob Abel said: “We are working closely with the Community Safety Partnership to patrol known trouble spots around Newport. To those causing nuisance and anti-social behaviour, our message is clear — we will take action. You risk a criminal record that can wreck your job prospects, credit chances, and even block travel to countries like the U.S.”
“We have various powers, including dispersal orders, fixed penalty notices, acceptable behaviour contracts, and criminal behaviour orders to tackle these issues.”
