Moped Rider Dies in Suspected Murder Crash in Esher

A 37-year-old man from Leatherhead was pronounced dead at the scene after a shocking collision between his moped and a white Seat Ibiza in Esher, Surrey. The crash has sparked a murder investigation, with a 52-year-old man from Orpington arrested and now in police custody.

Specialist Police Team Hunts for Answers

Surrey Police dispatched a specialist unit to piece together the events leading up to the collision, which happened around 6:20 AM on Monday on the A244 Claremont Lane, a quiet suburban road in Esher.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after multiple calls but sadly could not save the moped rider, who died instantly. His family has been informed and is receiving support from authorities.

Man Held on Suspicion of Murder

The 52-year-old suspect from Orpington is being questioned by detectives as the murder inquiry unfolds. Detective Inspector Natalie Pearce commented,

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this very difficult time. Our investigation is in the very early stages, and a specialist team of officers is working around the clock to follow up on enquiries.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Officers are urgently calling on anyone who witnessed the crash or saw a red moped and a white Seat Ibiza in the area before the collision to come forward.

Detective Inspector Pearce added:

“We are hoping to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage or information about the manner of driving of both vehicles prior to the crash.”

Surrey Police has also referred the investigation to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, following previous contact with the suspect, to ensure full transparency.
