Firefighters from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight were scrambled tonight to a major blaze at a flat above a pizza shop on Cosham High Street. Multiple engines from Cosham, Portchester, and Southsea raced to the scene, with the aerial ladder platform from Southsea deployed to tackle the spreading flames.
Smoke Billows As Fire Spreads to Loft
On arrival at 7:46pm, crews found heavy smoke pouring from the property as the fire spread into the loft space. Firefighters fought the flames using breathing apparatus, three jets, two hose reels, the aerial ladder, and ventilation fans to clear smoke.
All Residents Safe, Investigation Underway
Thankfully, all residents were accounted for and South Central Ambulance paramedics stood down. Hampshire Constabulary has set up a crime scene and will maintain a guard overnight, with a full investigation into the fire’s cause starting at first light.
Fire crews stood down at 9:38pm after bringing the blaze under control.
