Tilehurst Terror: Arson, Assault and Vandalism Shake Community

Chaos erupted in Tilehurst in the early hours this week, as police hunt suspects linked to a spate of arson, assault and criminal damage incidents. Two men launched a violent attack on a group sitting in a car on Mayfair just after 1.30am on Wednesday (4th August).

Victims Hurt but Lucky to Be Alive

The victims—a man in his 50s, a man in his 20s, and a teenage boy—suffered non-life threatening injuries. The trouble didn’t stop there. At 2.15am two days later, a car on the same road had its windows smashed. By 2.35am, men armed with weapons were spotted in Maiwand Gardens.

Suspects and Arrests: Police Close In

  • Two offenders from the Mayfair attacks are described as light-skinned Black men in their late 20s, linked to a blue Vauxhall.
  • A group of white men, also in their late 20s, were involved at Maiwand Gardens.
  • Arrests include a 55-year-old woman from Wokingham, and four males aged 15, 17, 20, 22, and 54 from Reading on charges ranging from arson and assault to drug offences.

Investigation Underway, Police Call for Witnesses

“This is a concerning series of incidents that have occurred in the past few days,” said Detective Inspector Laura Corscadden of Reading CID.

“We believe these are not random attacks and the groups involved know each other. There’s no wider risk to the community.”

She urged anyone with dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell footage from the Mayfair and Maiwand Gardens areas, especially between 1am and 3am on 4th and 6th August, to come forward quoting reference 43210350617.
