Shock Murder Rocks Southampton Pub
A brutal attack at The Bittern Pub in Southampton has claimed the life of Perry Cardy, 52. The much-loved Thornhill Park Road local was fatally struck on the head during a night out with friends on Friday, April 19, 2019.
Deadly Blow Outside The Bittern
- At 9pm, Perry was enjoying drinks with pals at The Bittern Pub, Thornhill Park Road.
- Just before 10pm, witnesses saw Perry stagger out after receiving a fatal head blow and collapse on a nearby stairway.
- Emergency services were called promptly at around 10pm; paramedics rushed Perry to Southampton General Hospital.
- The pub was immediately cordoned off and a major crime scene declared as police launched a full-scale investigation.
Two Men Arrested in Connection with Murder
Hampshire police have arrested two suspects in the wake of Perry’s death:
- Harry Joyce, 27: Identified as the man who dealt the fatal blow. His image and details have been released as the prime suspect.
- David Jenkins, 39: Arrested during an armed police raid early on Saturday April 20 on Tannerville Road. He is suspected of conspiracy to murder.
Social media posts linked to Jenkins surfaced, including chilling messages like, “Me and my main man tonight, you ain’t got nothing on us??” and a mock tribute to Perry: “R.I.P Perry, so sad and a shame waste of a life…”
Family and Police Plea for Witnesses
“Please come forward with any information to help with Perry Cardy’s death!!” – Perry’s sister
Detective Inspector Lee Macarthur from the Major Crime Team urged anyone present at The Bittern on April 19th to come forward: “No detail is too small. If you have footage or photos, please share them.”
Family, friends, and locals have paid tribute to Perry as a “much-loved man and father of three,” devastated by the tragic loss.
